Here are five ways to incorporate foods from the food pyramid in your diet:

1.	Healthy homemade burgers: Not all cheeseburgers are bad for your health. Burgers have protein from the meat, calcium from the cheese, grains from the bread and nutrients from the vegetables. To make them healthier, use ground turkey instead of ground beef.

2.	Fruit salad: Fruit salad is a yummy way to get nutrients from fruits.

3.	Frozen yogurt: Frozen yogurt tastes like ice cream, and it’s packed with calcium. You can add fruits as toppings for an extra serving of fruits. Another way to get enough calcium is to eat a serving of low-fat ice cream.

4.	Vegetables: A great way to incorporate vegetables in your diet is to top broccoli with low-fat cheese. Doing so will give you the nutrients from the broccoli and the calcium from the cheese.

5.	Guacamole burritos: Use a whole wheat tortilla and fill it with chicken, spinach, tomatoes, cheese and guacamole. Doing so will supply your body with good fats, calcium, whole grains, vitamins and minerals.

Salt is a double-edged sword. Salt is made from sodium, a mineral that is necessary for our bodies to maintain water and nutrient balances and blood volume. However, too much sodium can harm us by raising our blood pressure and increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke. Our bodies need about 1,500 milligrams of sodium per day to stay healthy, but most of us consume much more than that, eating on average about 3,436 milligrams per day. Here are five ways to limit your daily salt intake:

Replace salt with other flavors. It’s easy to add flavor to food with herbs and spices like garlic, basil, pepper, oregano, and sesame.

Read food labels. Most people have no clue how much sodium is in the products they buy. Always check the sodium count on food packaging and purchase low-, no-, or reduced-sodium options whenever possible.

Ask the chef. Restaurants often add a lot of salt to make their meals tastier, but most chefs will cut back or omit the salt if you ask them nicely.

Limit salt at home. When a recipe calls for salt, start off using half the listed amount and keep adding until it tastes right. Also, hold off on adding the salt until the end. You will use less.

Avoid the can. Salt is added to canned vegetables to extend the shelf life. Use fresh or frozen if available, but if you must use canned veggies, rinse them first.

This article will discuss five ways to reduce sugar in your meals. Having high blood sugar is very bad for your overall health. Statistics have shown that people with high blood sugar have a higher risk of death and other diseases. To reduce your sugar level you can try reducing the amount of sugar in your meal. Soda is very high in sugar; that is why doctors often advise patients against drinking too much soda. Instead of drinking soda, you can try green tea. Green tea is very good for health and can cure many illnesses. Secondly, you should only pick foods without added sugar. Be careful to pick only natural products and avoid foods with too many additives. Thirdly, you may try eating whole grain rice instead of white rice. Whole grain rice contains much more nutrients than any other types of rice. One other way to cut down on sugar consumption is to avoid sweetened breakfast cereals. Moreover, you should use a natural sugar substitute for your coffee such as stevia. The less sugar you eat, the lower your blood sugar level will become. Staying healthy by controlling your blood sugar level plus exercising regularly is a sure way to improve your longevity and happiness.

Dieting and eating healthy can be a difficult process, it all depends on your will power as a person though. People diet and begin to eat healthier for their own reasons. It can also become difficult shopping for the healthier foods and ensuring your home has all the healthy foods and ingredients you need to prepare meals. One of the most difficult factors of the process is continuing to eat healthy when you are out as well. Is is harder to run across or dine in a place that serves healthy dishes and uses healthier ingredients.Check out this link here.

One tip is to make sure you find out before hand what kind of food the restaurant serves, before deciding on eating there. Secondly would be to alternate healthier options for the usual meals you would choose. Third is to stay away from fried foods. Fourth is to avoid foods with mayo and MSG because frequent consumption of these products are not good. Fifth would be to choose dishes and foods that are prepared in a healthier way (like steamed veggies). Sixth is to only choose certain foods from a food preparation group or list which can be found or figured out within your dieting plan. Seventh minimize the portions of the food you are served. Lastly you have to drink water before and with your meal, soda and alcohol is not good for you either. If you follow up with these tips, then you are sure to continue eating healthy even away from home!

Rich chocolate cake with chocolate ganache, warm chocolate chip cookieswhen we think about desserts, we think about the high fat, sugary, carb laden treats that stimulate the taste buds. We often think about desserts as being anything but healthy; but did you know that desserts can be healthy? That’s right, there are ways to incorporate desert into one’s lifestyle. Here are four baking tips for healthier desserts:

Tip 1 -Sweeteners

Sweeteners, it’s one of the components to making a delectable dessert, but are there other healthier options. While sugar and high fructose corn syrup provide for delicious baked goods, they also provide for lots of extra calories. One alternative solution is to use honey. Honey is all natural and contains about 64 calories per tablespoon, while table sugar contains about 64 calories. In addition to being lower calorically, honey also has added health benefits, such as antioxidant and antimicrobial properties.

Tip 2 – Fats

While fats are essential for health, most of us eat too much of the wrong kinds of fat. Saturated fats and hydrogenated fats are unhealthy and lead to bad cholesterol. Good sources of fat that can be included in baking, are nut butters, such as almond, cashew, and peanut. If you would like to reduce the amount of fat in a recipe, you might consider using applesauce. Replacing cup of butter with applesauce in a recipe will dramatically reduce the fat content.

Tip 3 – Flour
Many of our desserts are baked with white flour. As an alternative, you might consider replacing half of the white flour called for in a recipe, with that of wheat flour. Wheat flour has greater health benefits than that of white flour.

Tip 4- Moderation

Let’s face it; there are times when we all will bake unhealthy treats that are high in fat, sugar, and carbs. The solution is moderation. Also, you might consider cutting portions into smaller sizes. For instance, when baking cookies, use a smaller scoop or when cutting cake, cut smaller slices. Use moderation and enjoy these treats sparingly.
